Call of Duty Black Ops

Call Of Duty Black Ops was released last year by Activision as a first person shooter developed for many different platforms such as Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation, and the Nintendo Wii. In a side note a version was developed and released for the Nintendo DS as well. There is also a Japanese language version that is wildly popular in Japan.

Black Ops far exceeded expectations when it was released, at least as far as overall sales go. Over seven million copies were purchased in the first day the game went on sale. This is a record for new release game sales over a twenty-four hour period.

In the single-player version the player becomes various soldiers who are various black ops missions. This is all tied into one storyline just viewed from different perspectives as you go along. Each mission requires you to complete a set of tasks, before advancing. Though primarily ground based first person shooter combat, the player will fly aircraft in some missions when they are available. A friendly unit accompanies the player on most missions. The single-player version features several movie clips which tie the missions together into a comprehensive story line.

The multiplayer version usually involves two teams on a mission against each other. Examples of this are Capture The Flag missions, or Team Deathmatch missions. There is also a Free For All mission in which there are no teams, but in that one the objective is obvious, everyone for themselves. There is also a mode called Zombie mode which is four players working together in a cooperative effort. This mode features some interesting maps and some new enemies.

Black Ops has kept the reward and experience points system that has become popular in other games before this. This allows for customization of items and equipment. The experience points system allows unlockable upgrades as you advance. Practically everything in the game can be customized, which allows for a more unique player experience.

There is also a currency system in game that allows players to purchase upgrades and items. Players can try to increase their holdings through either gambling, or by completing tasks for experience and credits. This currency is known as COD Points and allows for the purchase of weapons, clothes, items in game, and some customization options as well.

This game has met with mixed reviews since its release last year. Although popular for its gameplay style and multiplayer modes, the game does not work well on all of the platforms that it was released on. The game has been banned in the country of Cuba for it's single-player storyline which involves Cuba extensively as the enemy. The game has also drawn some harsh comments for overly graphic torture scenes as cinematic clips.

Every game has its bugs and every game has its critics. PC players complain that they cannot play the game at all, as lag and server issue compromise game play. Playstation owners complain of some in game problems as well. The 360 is not suffering from the same issues, and many people play this game on one. It can be fun to play against or with your friends. The Zombie co-op ,mode also sounds interesting. With all those customization options, you can truly make this game your adventure. Enjoy.
