Harry Potter Books and Movies

If you haven't seen the Harry Potter series then this article will give you a brief overview of the different books. I've also provided some links to the movies and books if you'd like a better more robust description. There have been over 400 million Harry Potter books sold worldwide and in 67 different languages according to Wikipedia. Harry Potter movies have grossed over $2 billion dollars at the box office.  One of the most successful series in history.  So if you haven't had a chance to see these wonderful movies or to read these books then read a little further and you'll see what all the excitement is about.

J.K. Rowling's first book was named the Philosopher's Stone but was release in America under the name Sorcerer's Stone. Out of the 7 different movies the Sorcerer's stone was the most profitable.

The first tale in the Harry Potter series shows readers the humble beginnings of the world famous wizard. Here is where we first meet Harry's friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and where first blood is drawn in the long standing feuds between Harry's group and the likes of Draco Malfoy and his cronies, fellow students at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Setting Harry and his friends on a hunt for the titular stone, this first novel in the series serves primarily as an introduction to the world of Harry Potter, introducing us to headmaster Professor Dumbledore, the game of Quidditch and everything else that makes the series such a treat for the imagination.

Picking up with Harry beginning his second year of tutelage at Hogwarts, Chamber of Secrets wastes no time building danger and suspense as a series of mysterious messages have begun eerily appearing all over the walls of the school, warning that the heir of Slytherin is set to kill all students with non-magical family backgrounds, and that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Taking place over the course of the year, Chamber of Secrets shows the strengthening bonds between Harry and his friends and instructors while drawing readers ever deeper into the world of Harry Potter and shedding some faint light on the mysteries of Voldemort and the bitter, ancient rivalries beneath the whimsical surface of the series.

Legendary prisoner Sirius Black has escaped the magic prison of Azkaban, leading to increased security at Hogwarts in Harry Potter's third year of attendance. The Dementors, hateful prison guards of the prison of Azkaban, are after Black and are more than willing to claim a few casualties along the way. Harry and his friends have their skills pushed to the limit as they try to get to the bottom of the mysteries surrounding Black and the Dementors, finding that things are rarely as simple as they first seem when it comes to magic.

Opening on a dark note with a mysterious dream Harry experiences revolving around Lord Voldemort, Goblet of Fire raises the stakes by introducing us to Voldemorts servents, the Death Eaters, within the first act. The story largely centers around the TriWizard Tournament and the Goblet of Fire, whose living flame determines the competitors who will participate in the tournament. As danger draws nearer, Harry and his friends grow into their adolescence and experience young love and jealousy within their close-knit circle.

As if Harry's life hadn't already been complicated enough by the world of magic, Order of the Phoenix pits Harry and his friends against their trickiest opponent yet: bureaucracy. Harry finds himself serving as his own defense against accusations of underage magic use after defending himself against Death Eaters, and must face off against the obstructive Ministry of Magic. Meanwhile, Dumbledore has re-activated the secret society, the Order of the Phoenix, in order to combat the efforts of Voldemort to assassinate key figures at Hogwarts. The stage is set by the final page for the apocalyptic battles that make up the final books in the series.

Harry contends with rumors that he may be the so called "Chosen One" destined to defeat Lord Voldemort while adolescent love gives way to the romantic intrigue of young adulthood. Lines are drawn in the sand as Harry and his friends and enemies are forced to choose sides between the Hogwarts camp and Lord Voldemort's. It is in the Half Blood Prince that the series matures into a dark and complex fantasy for the ages. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the six book in the series.

Hope seems lost as the conflict between Harry and Voldemort enters its end-game. Long-standing friendships are tested to their very limits and lives are lost in the magic war between Voldemort and the ever-shrinking group of righteous wizards and witches. All bets are off and nobody is safe in this final chapter that will shock and enthrall readers who have followed Harry from the beginning.
